At last I roamed my backyard! The cool, calm air mixed with the fresh greenery was a welcomed change from recent environments. After such a long time away, it felt good to be out roaming but my body needed to readjust. I had hoped do the hill in 45 minutes; I actually did it in 56 minutes.
Despite my timing, despite the leg pain, despite the darkness at the bottom of the hill, it was good to be back on the fitness journey. Today is January 28 and you probably broke a New Year’s resolution or two—not to eat any junk; no more swearing; starting to exercise…You know what?
Like me, you can begin again today!
You may have made some poor health choices in the past. You can begin again by making good choices now! You may think that you have been such a bad cookie that God could not possibly forgive you. You know what? You can choose to sincerely repent today and begin afresh with God!
1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Isaiah 43:18-19 says forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Scripture is replete with second chances—Jonah, Samson, Ruth, Lazarus, Zacchaeus. Even the disciples had tainted pasts. Did they let their past sub-par successes distract them from what they were going towards? Nope!
In John 21:6, Jesus said to them, “…have you caught anything to eat?” They answered him, “No.”
So he said to them, “Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something.”
So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in because of the number of fish. They could have said we tried all day and night and nothing. But they didn’t. They weren’t afraid to begin again!
God, who was good enough for the old saints, is sure good enough for you!
So what if you weren’t successful previously?
So what if your life was out of balance?
So what if things didn’t work out in that relationship?
So what if you didn’t pass that exam?
So what if you ate yourself into a little paunch?
You can begin again!
And know that with God all things are possible!
Have a blessed day
