BARBADOS

Clergy and laity of the Diocese of Bridgetown had the honour of welcoming and meetings with Fr Esteban Ramon Kross, the newly appointed Director of the Pontifical Mission Society for the Antilles Episcopal Conference (AEC), of which the diocese is a member. Fr Kross is from the Diocese of Paramaribo, Suriname.

Fr Esteban’s first official visit to Barbados for World Mission Sunday (October 21) was timely, and allowed him to see firsthand, the work of the local Church which is a beneficiary of the funds collected for Mission Sunday. He visited all the parish churches, and toured St Patrick’s RC and the Ursuline Convent Schools, taking time to chat with the children to their delight.

The Barbados Advocate reported that Fr Kross also met with the clergy and a prayer and worship session with the youth and young adults of the diocese. He asked local Catholics to give meaningful reflection to this year’s World Mission Sunday’s theme Together with young people, let us bring the Gospel to all and expressed his happiness at the high quality of the Catholic formation programmes in the schools he visited.

He said, “In a world where so much divides us, World Mission Sunday rejoices in our unity as children of God, His missionaries.” In a call for generosity he said, “Together with God’s people in every corner of the globe, we become voices for mission, providing the prayerful and financial support necessary to bring the Lord’s mercy and concrete help to the most vulnerable communities in the world.”
