Newest priest ordained on birthday

GUYANA

The number of priests in Guyana increased by one when India-born Deacon Francis Savarimuthu was ordained for a lifetime of service as a Diocesan priest. The two-hour ceremony took place November 21 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Brickdam, which was almost as full as COVID-19 regulations would allow with friends and well-wishers from Georgetown and further afield—as far as the North West and Berbice.

Bishop Francis Alleyne OSB of Georgetown was the main celebrant and ordaining prelate. Among the concelebrants was Bishop John Persaud of Mandeville, Jamaica, who was on a short visit to Guyana.
