‘Christians are not celebrities; Jesus warns us to beware of the praise …’
Luke 6: 20-26
2020… Sigh. Barely two weeks have passed, and the world still reels from the untimely death of the “Black Panther”. Tributes and accolades to Chadwick Boseman continue to pour in from every part of the globe. It seems fitting – for a celebrity, he had an aura of humility, humanity and quiet strength that came across even through a tv screen. It leads me to hope his soul is safe.
Christians are not celebrities though; Jesus warns us to beware of the praise and applause.
The world is not wired to accept the message of Christ. If we are preaching His values and His doctrines, ultimately, we don’t get to be the heroes. Persecution will follow us. Sure, there will be good days and some well-deserved praise, but never seek the approval of the masses. Submit not to the will of the crowds, but to carrying the weight of the cross. That is how we know we’re on the right road.
Lord, make me a person of integrity and holy character. Give me the courage to live for You, come what may. Amen.
