It’s been a good season for some of our Catholic primary and secondary schools.
In the Secondary Schools Football League, Fatima College intercol team took the North Zone Championship title which ensured their advancement to the ‘Big 5’ Competition where they played fellow zonal winners, Moruga Secondary (South), Arima North Secondary (East), Chaguanas North Secondary (Central) and Signal Hill Secondary (Tobago). Fatima was demoted from the Premier Division in 2018.
At the end of the Big 5 matches, Fatima finished second to Moruga, claiming one of three berths for promotion to the Premier Division. Their St Mary’s College counterparts however did not fair well in the Premier Division and were demoted to the North Zone for the 2020 season.
Fatima’s other division teams also did well during the 2019 season. Their Under 14 team won the North Zone Championship, and in the November 30 knockout final they beat Trinity College (Moka) 7-0. The Under 16 team had a date with St Anthony’s College for the North Zone knockout final on Friday, December 6.
Over in the girls’ competitions, Holy Name Convent ruled the roost taking both the Under 20 and Under 15 North Zone and knockout titles.
St Benedict’s College (Form Ones) faced off against East Mucurapo Secondary last week in the national final, while South Zone intercol champs Presentation College (San Fernando) were to face San Juan North Secondary for the national Intercol title.
In hockey, Mucurapo Girls RC captured the Trinidad and Tobago Primary Schools Hockey Tournament girls title at the Woodbrook Youth Facility. Jada Gibbs scored twice for Mucurapo A team with the other goal coming from the stick of Samara Date.
Tunapuna Boys RC emerged victorious among the boys. In the final, Tunapuna battled past Dunross Preparatory 1-0. Maria Goretti Preparatory finished third.
