The Virtus—Protecting God’s Children Programme is hosted by the Archdiocesan Family Life Commission as an awareness, education and training programme for adults 18 years and older.
The programme focuses on making young children and teens feel safe as well as children and teens who have or may have been abused. It guides adults on how to take precautions and foretell the warning signs; how to know what they are; when they are happening; and how to deal with these cases with sensitivity when they do occur and are brought to their attention.
Generally, the programme provides a breakdown on how to communicate with young persons in a manner that establishes trust between them and the adult, guardian or protector.
It highlights a series of steps to use as a guiding process in dealing with such situations. It makes one aware that there are no safe spaces unless provided and unless persons are aware enough to maintain such an environment.
This programme is genuinely guided towards answering the questions that are posed with honest and articulate responses to make these training and education sessions more effective and efficient.
It is well researched, and the presenters are knowledgeable and invested in providing sound information on the subject matter. The sense of vulnerability felt at the beginning is eased as the session moves forward, overall making it a useful initiative.
