‘Camp Harmony’ learns about caring for the environment

The Men’s Ministry of Malabar RC hosted their 4th Annual Youth Camp during the holiday period. The August 7–18 camp was held at the church’s parish hall under the theme Harmony in Relationships. We felt the theme was a useful way to help teach our youngsters an appreciation of the importance for caring and having consideration for others.

Though the men’s ministry was at the helm of organising the programme, they received help from other ministries in the parish. Seven parish catechists conducted daily morning sessions on Catechetics, and dealing with inter-personal relationships. Other activities included craft sessions, songs, and dance which culminated on the final day with a cultural presentation given by the campers.

The outdoor activities educated the campers on the importance of their relationship with the environment. To make the lesson real to them, we journeyed to the scenic Wild Fowl Trust at Pointe-a-Pierre. The young people were divided into groups led by the Trust’s guides who gave an interesting educational tour.
